Agamemnon’s display of character and how he is a disappointment Book 1-5
Agamemnon is supposedly in one of the highest authorities that everyone should follow and also rely on in difficult situations, but in many conflicts he displays the opposite of confidence and leadership. He rather displays a character of weakness and hesitation which causes a lot of confusion for his army of men , and his decision making can cost many deaths . Agamemnon reminds me of an irresponsible inexperienced manager that is responsible for a company. Instead of him listening to Achilles’s guidance , he takes a lot of matters upon himself in a time when no men are prepared but sadly they must listen to Agamemnon’s orders. He also displays himself to be selfish when he insists on having the priest’s daughter even though it might cost the lives of his people and also cause many battles . Up until this point in the book I haven’t seen Agamemnon be a responsible , dependable leader .
I agree, when someone thinks of a leader they usually think of someone that is respected and able to make decisions in tough situations, but in almost every situation Agamemnon has talked, it was met with hostility or someone trying to push him in the right direction. His decisions seem extremely rash and not planned out at all, like when he said he wanted to "test" his army by telling them all to go home. I think the conversations seen with Agamemnon have all been to show just how poorly he the position of being a leader.
