It seems as though it was Patroklos' fate to die. Zeus has everything already predestined and how everything is going to play out. He speaks of his plans on how Hektor was going to kill Patroklos and as a result, Achilles would then join the fight, killing Hektor and since he chose to fight, he would die in battle but with a legacy. The death of his best friend was a turning point for Achilles and therefore was a catalyst for him to fight. I think Achilles was having such a hard time deciding what he wanted for himself but as soon as Patroklos is killed, the event made the decision for him because in that instance, he was acting on emotion.

    I also agree that Zeus saw Patroklos dying would be the only thing that would cause Achilles to be wanting to get back into that war since he is one of of the only few people that Achilles actually cares about.

    I totally agree with what you are saying about Achilles. Patroklos' death definitely triggered Achilles to join the fight despite what his decision was in the past. He want to make sure that he gets his revenge for the sake of Patroklos.
