Book 17
In Book 17 Patrocles death causes a big fight between both sides in this war and this whole book is basically centered around it. Hektor disrespects him and takes his armor and the Acheans do not like that but what I found interesting in this book is when Apollo himself seems to want this battle to keep going as he instigates Hektor by saying on line 335 "Hektor, and you other lords of the Trojans and their companions, here is a shameful thing!". Apollo then tells them how Zeus is on their side and they can't lose because of Zeus's will. This puts the Hektor and the Trojans on the offensive and causes some more of the Acheans to die. It seems as if Apollo wants this fighting to be going on just as much as Zeus does so it makes me curious as to what his fate will be.
I agree with Besnik Huseinovic. Apollo along with the rest of the gods wants this war to continue. In a way it is like Homer is demonstrating that the gods love drama. It is true the god love to see drama happen and love to get involved with the mortals. That is why Apollo wants the war to continue as well as Zeus. Book 17 does cause another fight between the Achaeans and the Trojans because of the death of a strong brave warrior. Patrocles died with honor and glory and because of his death the Trojans want to take his corps in a way takin his. Honor and creating it to be the honor of the Trojans. I am also curious to see where this war will take us. I find it interesting that drama is what makes this novel the most interesting.
