Book 18

To start I cannot believe that Homer dedicated a whole book (17) about the Greeks and the Trojans fighting each other to see which one would keep Patroklus corpse (that was intense) Now with his death, we are closer to the big fight between Hektor and Achilleus. As Patroklus was about to die, he foreshadows that Hektor's end will come and Achilleus will be responsible for his death (Book 16 Lines 846 - 861). So Hektor removes Patroklus armor, to keep Achilleus away from the battle as much as he can, but I believe by acting this way he is only feeding Achilleus' wrath. On Book 18 Lines 18 - 38 Achilleus finds out about Patroklus, and he goes into this deep sorrow, and the Gods come to his aid. This is the opportunity that the mortals and immortals were waiting for, now Achilleus has a significant motive to go back to battle. Even his mother tells him, that was Hektor that killed him, and she gets him new armor. (Lines 127-137) And then Goddess Iris does the same thing (Lines170 - 180) They are all pushing him to go and face the Trojans. Now with Achilleus in the battle, the Greeks have another opportunity to win this war.
