Final topic

My final paper will be analyzing Philoctetes and his foot condition, and how it affects him throughout the tragedy. After being left alone for so many years, the lack of human interaction and constant pain caused his decision making to become extremely poor. This is shown several times, such as how he let go of his prized bow, with seemingly no regard for his safety, after seeing someone after being alone and in pain for so long. Clearly, he should have put more thought into who he was meeting and what his intentions were, but the pain caused by his foot physically incapacitated him, and prevented him from making good decisions. This shows that physical pain can manifest itself into mental negligence of seemingly obvious issues.

  1. This is a very interesting topic because Philocetetes' foot condition not only impacted his life but also his decisions throughout the tragedy. Due to the condition of his foot, he was isolated from society for a while. His foot condition is the perfect representation of isolation and suffering.
